Happy New Year!

In approximately 24 hours, those of us, in the northern part of the country, brave enough to venture out in below freezing temperatures, will party hardy as we welcome in the New Year while others of us will remain nestled in the comfort of our homes with friends and/or family as 2018 makes its way into our lives.

As we look back on 2017 most of us will agree that it was a year that will long be remembered for reinvigorating the spirit of activism in our country. No matter which side of the aisle you are on, 2017 was a year fraught with heated discussions, hostility, incredulousness, fundraising and activism. It was more reminiscent of the political unrest evidenced during the 1970s than in later decades. Whether you agree or disagree with the current political climate most of us realize that complacency has no place in our world and for that I am grateful.

For me personally, 2017 was a wonderful year. The birth of my second grandson was an amazing experience, as I was privileged and honored to be in the delivery room as he entered into the world. As most of us grandparents know grandchildren are a true blessing. The love you feel for your grandchildren is indescribable and oh so precious.

2017 was also the first full year of my retirement. Believe it or not, I never actually thought I would retire but retire I did! The fact that I not only retired but was able to spend the winter in Florida surpassed all of my dreams. Every day as I stepped out into the balmy eighty degree sunshine I was eternally grateful for the experience.

Coming back home just in time for my golf league to start was pure bliss.

My dream was always to be a writer. I can’t tell you how many e-mails, papers, and reports I’ve either written, critiqued, and/or edited. To think that I am a bona-fide freelance contributor to New York Golfing Magazine is a dream come true!

In June, my husband, good friend and I signed up for Pickleball classes that the town of Hempstead sponsored. Who would have believed that this experience would have opened up an entire new world for the three of us. Not only have we become Pickleball addicts, but we’ve met the most amazing, gracious, friendly, and generous group of people who are equally smitten with the game. The socialization aspect of the sport is as contagious as the game that we’ve been fortunate enough to play.

In September, I actually played golf in Scotland with three friends from my former career. If you’d like to hear more about that unbelievable trip please check it out in my previous blog.

So as I say good-bye to 2017, I continue to count my blessings: My family is well and healthy, my unbelievable and supportive friendship circle is expanding and active, I’m even learning to play Mah Jong (at least I’m trying) and in my heart I am at peace. Life is good!

I wish you all the very best life has to offer and then some. May 2018 be filled with love, health, prosperity and happiness! Always remember that we are the masters of our own destiny so keep active, keep smiling, keep loving your family, friends, and most importantly love yourself because it all starts with you!

The best is yet to come!
