Another Senseless Gun Tragedy: How many victims are left in this gunman’s wake?

Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle, a rapper, community activist, entrepreneur, Grammy nominated artist, father, son and citizen of the world was fatally shot Sunday afternoon outside of the clothing store he owned in south central L.A. What a legacy this amazing, visionary, talented, kind, benevolent man of courage and honor leaves behind. As a mother, grandmother, American and global citizen, my heart aches not only for his family but for the community of south central L.A. he loved, served, and greatly impacted.

My heart aches for all of the lives he touched and more importantly for all of the lives that will forever miss his aura, vision, purpose and unwavering commitment to his community, My hope is that his torch will be lifted and carried by the thousands of people he impacted along the way and by other visionary people of influence because each one of us can and does make a difference.

And now to the young man who perpetrated this senseless act of hate, cowardice and betrayal. My heart goes out to you and your family for life as you know it is over. From this point in time you will be forever looking over your shoulder waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop. You’ll have no peace knowing, not if but when, someone you probably know, will “rat” you out for the reward that is surely to follow. The jewelry that you will grow accustomed to wearing are the handcuffs and shackles provided by the state and for what? Membership in a gang, a perceived grudge, bragging rights??

Your unique gifts and talents will be forever wasted as you tried to extinguish this beacon of hope for tens of thousands within your own community and the world, but fear not! I have no doubt that Nipsey’s legacy will live on through the deeds, works and tenacity of all of the people who were and are inspired by his amazing life.

Gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Nipsey.
