To my fellow Baby Boomers:
For those of you who are new to my blog, my name is Laura Beltran and like most of you, I am a baby boomer. For the past couple of years, following a successful career in health care, I’ve been fortunate to realize my lifelong passion as a freelance writer and blogger.
As baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, we are a unique group. At last count baby boomers are 76.4 million strong or roughly 40% of the American population. Every day roughly 10,000 baby boomers retire while one in 10 predict they will never retire. Boomers are often labeled the “sandwich” generation because many of us are “sandwiched” between the care and sustenance of our aging parents and the needs of our adult children and/or grandchildren.
Many of us face tough decisions everyday regarding:
When to downsize and/or move to a retirement tax friendly state
Should you continue to provide financial assistance to adult children and/or grandchildren
Is babysitting your grandchild your next career?
Is assisted living for loved ones a viable option?
How can you stay physically fit and active when it’s more fun to be a couch potato?
Is it wrong to want some “me” time?
Will you EVER be able to retire?
Will you ever have enough?
All of these questions and more are under the purview of baby boomers.
From our diverse life experiences, I believe each and every one of us has a lot to contribute to enhance the quality of our collective lives. It may be as simple as sharing a recipe, a great vacation idea for grandparents and their grandchildren, offering pointers when playing a new sport like Pickleball or golf, discussing the benefits of moving to Arizona over South Carolina or vice versa or any other subject that tickles your fancy. We all have so much life experience and information to share.
